Have you ever been to a congregation and someone got up and said these terrible words, “Welcome to the House of God”?

Ugh? Wait a minute. The House of God? What’s up with that? Are we re-living Old Testament days?

“Do you not know that you are God’s temple and that God’s Spirit dwells in you?” 1 Corinthians 3:16

We are God’s House or Temple. The building where we assemble is not. It’s just a building. There’s nothing holy about that building. The Old Covenant TEMPLE principle – with its altar and a Levite High Priest hovering over everyone – is no longer in effect. See Church Services Are NOT Biblical for an in-depth exposé.

As a matter of fact, Christians can assemble anywhere. There’s no need to go into debt for a building. The early Church always met in homes. The money being wasted on mortgages can be put to better use by helping so many suffering Christians, especially in a downturn economy.

Each individual Christian is the Saint who is Holy or Separated unto God, because of the indwelling of the Holy Spirit. So when you help your Christian brethren, you are “helping” God. That’s the only building or temple God cares about.

So next time anyone errs like that – by making an edifice out to be what it’s not – please make sure that person is duly and lovingly corrected, publicly if necessary. The word of God is more important than someone’s pride or ego.
